uplifting thoughts and inspiration on faith

Formal acceptance of a gift is necessary under French law. In other words, you can’t just give something, it has to be received.
Genesis 26:12 Then Isaac sowed seed in that land and received in the same year a hundred times as much as he had planted, and the Lord favored him with blessings.
Balak and Balaam
Balak, King of Moab, sent for Balaam, a seer, a foreteller of events, and asked him to curse his enemies.
Numbers 23:11 And Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, and here you have [thoroughly] blessed them instead!
Numbers 23:19-21 God is not a man, that He should tell or act a lie, neither the son of man, that He should feel repentance or compunction [for what He has promised]. Has He said and shall He not do it? Or has He spoken and shall He not make it good?
You see, I have received His command to bless Israel. He has blessed, and I cannot reverse or qualify it.
[God] has not beheld iniquity in Jacob [for he is forgiven], neither has He seen mischief or perverseness in Israel [for the same reason]. The Lord their God is with Israel, and the shout of praise to their King is among the people.
God caused Balaam to receive, to take into his possession (something offered or delivered); to take into his mind; to accept from another by hearing or listening a blessing and not a curse. Once it was received, accepted, the blessing was all Balaam could deliver. He tried multiple times to muster up a curse but each time a blessing came out.
Esther 4:4 When Esther’s maids and her attendants came and told it to her, the queen was exceedingly grieved and distressed. She sent garments to clothe Mordecai, with orders to take his sackcloth from off him, but he would not receive them.
Job 22:21-23 Acquaint now yourself with Him [agree with God and show yourself to be conformed to His will] and be at peace; by that [you shall prosper and great] good shall come to you. Receive, I pray you, the law and instruction from His mouth and lay up His words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty [and submit and humble yourself before Him], you will be built up; if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents
Psalm 6:9 The Lord has heard my supplication; the Lord receives my prayer.
Psalm 49:15 But God will redeem me from the power of Sheol (the place of the dead); for He will receive me. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
Psalm 119:136 Streams of water run down my eyes, because men do not keep Your law [they hear it not, nor receive it, love it, or obey it].
If it is not received it does no good.
Psalm 119:145 I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O Lord; I will keep Your statutes [I will hear, receive, love, and obey them].
Proverbs 1:3 Receive instruction in wise dealing and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, and integrity
If you will receive, admit, entertain, welcome – this is what will happen:
My son, if you will receive my words and treasure up my commandments within you,
Making your ear attentive to skillful and godly Wisdom and inclining and directing your heart and mind to understanding [applying all your powers to the quest for it];
Yes, if you cry out for insight and raise your voice for understanding,
If you seek [Wisdom] as for silver and search for skillful and godly Wisdom as for hidden treasures,
Then you will understand the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of [our omniscient] God.
For the Lord gives skillful and godly Wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He hides away sound and godly Wisdom and stores it for the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with Him); He is a shield to those who walk uprightly and in integrity,
That He may guard the paths of justice; yes, He preserves the way of His saints.
Then you will understand righteousness, justice, and fair dealing [in every area and relation]; yes, you will understand every good path.
For skillful and godly Wisdom shall enter into your heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant to you.
Discretion shall watch over you, understanding shall keep you,
To deliver you from the way of evil and the evil men, from men who speak perverse things and are liars
Proverbs 4:10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life shall be many.
Proverbs 8:10 Receive my instruction in preference to [striving for] silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold
Proverbs 17:23 A wicked man receives a bribe out of the bosom (pocket) to pervert the ways of justice.
The bribe is offered. There is a choice. The wicked man receives a bribe. The other option obviously is not to receive it.
Proverbs 19:20 Hear counsel, receive instruction, and accept correction, that you may be wise in the time to come.
Ecclesiastes 4:13 Better is a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who no longer knows how to receive counsel (friendly reproof and warning)—
God says it did no good to attempt to chasten or discipline the children of Israel because they would not receive it.
Jeremiah 2:30In vain have I stricken your children (your people); they received no discipline (no correction). Your own sword devoured your prophets like a destroying lion.
Jeremiah 7:28 Yet you shall say to them, This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the Lord their God or receive instruction and correction and warning; truth and faithfulness have perished and have completely vanished from their mouths.
Jeremiah 17:23 Yet they would not listen and obey or incline their ears; but they stiffened their necks, that they might not hear and might not receive instruction.
Jeremiah 32:33 And they have turned their backs to Me and not their faces; though I taught them persistently, yet they would not listen and receive instruction.
Jeremiah 35:13 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Go and say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction and listen to My words and obey them? says the Lord.
Matthew 7:8 For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened.
The reason everyone who keeps on asking receives is because the process of keeping on asking, keeping on seeking, and keeping on knocking is one that creates a relationship with God allowing Him to discipline, fine tune, teach, and calm you. It is the path through the fire of refinement where you learn patience and waiting upon the Lord. Surviving the testing of the soul, persisting in your insistence that He answer, you endure.
When the answer does come you realize that the answer, valuable as it may be, has sorely dimmed in comparison to the realization of the greater thing you have gained – the ability to receive. The ability to receive comes through faith. Faith comes by hearing. Hearing comes by the Word Who is Jesus Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith.
Matthew 19:11 But He said to them, Not all men can accept this saying, but it is for those to whom [the capacity to receive] it has been given.
Matthew 21:22 And whatever you ask for in prayer, having faith and [really] believing, you will receive.
In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself.
He was present originally with God.
All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him was not even one thing made that has come into being.
In Him was Life, and the Life was the Light of men.
And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].
There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came to witness, that he might testify of the Light, that all men might believe in it [adhere to it, trust it, and rely upon it] through him. He was not the Light himself, but came that he might bear witness regarding the Light. There it was—the true Light [was then] coming into the world [the genuine, perfect, steadfast Light] that illumines every person. He came into the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him [did not know Him].
He came to that which belonged to Him [to His own—His domain, creation, things, world], and they who were His own did not receive Him and did not welcome Him.
But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name— Who owe their birth neither to bloods nor to the will of the flesh [that of physical impulse] nor to the will of man [that of a natural father], but to God. [They are born of God!]
John 3:33 Whoever receives His testimony has set his seal of approval to this: God is true. [That man has definitely certified, acknowledged, declared once and for all, and is himself assured that it is divine truth that God cannot lie].
John 5:38-47 And you have not His word (His thought) living in your hearts, because you do not believe and adhere to and trust in and rely on Him Whom He has sent. [That is why you do not keep His message living in you, because you do not believe in the Messenger Whom He has sent.]
You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures] testify about Me! And still you are not willing [but refuse] to come to Me, so that you might have life.
I receive not glory from men [I crave no human honor, I look for no mortal fame], But I know you and recognize and understand that you have not the love of God in you. I have come in My Father’s name and with His power, and you do not receive Me [your hearts are not open to Me, you give Me no welcome]; but if another comes in his own name and his own power and with no other authority but himself, you will receive him and give him your approval.
How is it possible for you to believe [how can you learn to believe], you who [are content to seek and] receive praise and honor and glory from one another, and yet do not seek the praise and honor and glory which come from Him Who alone is God?
Put out of your minds the thought and do not suppose [as some of you are supposing] that I will accuse you before the Father. There is one who accuses you—it is Moses, the very one on whom you have built your hopes [in whom you trust].
For if you believed and relied on Moses, you would believe and rely on Me, for he wrote about Me [personally].
But if you do not believe and trust his writings, how then will you believe and trust My teachings? [How shall you cleave to and rely on My words?]
John 14:17 The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see Him or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you [constantly] and will be in you.
1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God.
Colossians 2:6 As you have therefore received Christ, [even] Jesus the Lord, [so] walk (regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].
James 1:6-8 Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind. For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord,[For being as he is] a man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides].
Doubt: to be inclined to disbelieve; to be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe; to distrust; lack of belief in or conviction about something
You cannot receive from God if you do not first believe that He is Who He says He is, that He is good and wants good things for His children, that He hears our prayers, will answer our prayers, and has a plan for us. James 1:6-8 is not mean spirited. “Don’t think for one minute God is going to give you anything at all because a little bit of doubt ran across your mind!”
James is referring to the process. The process of believing, trusting, waiting, asking, seeking, knocking, repeat, repeat, repeat.
It is in digging in, holding fast, and refusing to let go that we grow, know, and ultimately receive. There is no other way. God is not a genie in a bottle waiting around to grant us three wishes. He is almighty God diligently working to set the world and His people back to the original state of perfection He ordained for us in the beginning. We are either on board and part of that plan or we are not. It’s just that simple.
God answers prayers and satisfies needs according to His perfect plan, perfect purpose, and perfect timing. If your prayers and requests line up with those things or if you are willing to let God take the lead and amend the answers to your prayers to reflect His perfect plan, purpose, and timing then you can easily expect a positive answer. If you are however unwilling to get in line with God then you are asking in vain because you are not on His team.
There is only one leader and the leader is God. If you are trying to be the leader you are going to fail and continue to fail.
James 4:2-4 You are jealous and covet [what others have] and your desires go unfulfilled; [so] you become murderers. [To hate is to murder as far as your hearts are concerned.] You burn with envy and anger and are not able to obtain [the gratification, the contentment, and the happiness that you seek], so you fight and war. You do not have, because you do not ask.
[Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures.
You [are like] unfaithful wives [having illicit love affairs with the world and breaking your marriage vow to God]! Do you not know that being the world’s friend is being God’s enemy? So whoever chooses to be a friend of the world takes his stand as an enemy of God.
1 John 3:22 And we receive from Him whatever we ask, because we [ watchfully] obey His orders [observe His suggestions and injunctions, follow His plan for us] and [ habitually] practice what is pleasing to Him.
