God is Great

So God is Great.   What does that mean exactly?   The definition of the word great is lengthy and has many synonyms.

GREAT:   unusually or comparatively large in size or dimensions; extensive, broad, grand; unusual or considerable in degree, power, intensity;  wonderful; first-rate; being such in an extreme or notable degree;  important; highly significant or consequential; chief or principal; of high rank, official position; of extraordinary powers;   having unusual merit; very admirable;   immense, enormous, gigantic, huge, vast, grand; elevated, exalted, dignified; of larger size or more importance;  excellent; generous; bountiful; abundant, copious, plentiful;  wide, extensive; big; measureless, boundless; limitless;  exceeds in extent, magnitude, or  degree; tremendous;   so huge as to be  astonishing or to inspire awe; literally not measurable;  magnificent; splendid; of exceptional beauty; extraordinarily fine; superb; sublime; majestic; opulent; exquisite; splendid;  beautiful, princely, grand; dazzling; impressive; brilliance, radiance, excellence; glorious; splendid; breathtaking;  beautiful, awesome, amazing, astonishing, awe-inspiring, exciting, heart-stirring, overwhelming, thrilling; dignified, honorable, regal; divine; all-powerful, almighty, eternal, exalted, excellent, glorious, hallowed, holy, marvelous, omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, supernatural, transcendent, transcendental; highest, imposing, exalted, to be praised, superior; choice, choicest, desirable, high, incomparable, invaluable, outstanding, premium, priceless, prime, select, supreme; glorious, adored, delightful, distinguished, elevated, eminent, enjoyable, esteemed, immortal, noble, preeminent, radiant, remarkable, renowned, resplendent, shining, triumphant, venerable; mighty; overwhelming; awesome; sovereign; stately; fantastic; satisfying; generous; gracious, worthy; beautiful, bright, brilliant, dazzling, resplendent, rich; distinguished, dominant, eminent, exceptional, important, impressive, phenomenal, predominant, preeminent, primo, principal, special, stellar, super, superior, superlative; abundant, well-supplied; abounding, ample, costly, deluxe, exquisite, extravagant, fruitful, full, priceless;

Wow!   That’s a lot.   And what’s even more impressive is that all of it applies to God.   Try it.  Select any part of the definition of Great and apply it to God.

God is (fill in the blank here).

God is considerable in degree, power, and intensity.

God is Wonderful.

God is of extraordinary powers.

God is generous, of bountiful supply, abundant supply.

God’s love is wide, measureless, boundless.

God’s understanding is infinite or limitless.

God is awe-inspiring and awesome, magnificent, sublime, majestic.

God is royal, regal, kingly, amazing, divine, heart-stirring, and overwhelming.

God is divine, all-powerful, supernatural, almighty, eternal, omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, superior, phenomenal, eternal.

God is incomparable, exalted, and to be praised.

God is mighty, sovereign, generous, gracious, and worthy.

Cover to cover the Bible tells of the Greatness of God and not only His inherent greatness but His great love, mercy, compassion, and saving grace through the blood of His Son, the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

1 Chronicles 16:25    For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised;  He also is to be [reverently] feared above all so-called gods.

1 Chronicles 29:11    Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and the earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and Yours it is to be exalted as Head over all.

Nehemiah 1:5    And I said: I pray, LORD God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments

Psalm 96:4    For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; He is to be reverently feared and worshiped above all [so-called] gods.

Isaiah 9:2    The people who walked in darkness have seen a great Light; those who dwelt in the land of intense darkness and the shadow of death, upon them has the Light shined.

Isaiah 12:6    Cry aloud and shout joyfully, you women and inhabitants of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

God’s Name is Great

Jeremiah 10:6    None at all is like You, O Lord; You are great, and Your name is great in might.

Ezekiel 36:23    And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the LORD, says the Lord GOD, when I am hallowed in you before their eyes.

1 Samuel 12:22    The Lord will not forsake His people for His great name’s sake, for it has pleased Him to make you a people for Himself.

1 Kings 8:42    For they will hear of Your great name (Your revelation of Yourself), Your strong hand, and outstretched arm—when he shall pray in [or toward] this house

2 Chronicles 6:32    Moreover, concerning a foreigner, who is not of Your people Israel, but has come from a far country for the sake of Your great name and Your mighty hand and Your outstretched arm, when they come and pray in this temple
