uplifting thoughts and inspiration on faith

God is Good

God is Good All the Time

Exodus 33:18-20    And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”

Then He [God] said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of  the Lord before you.   I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” But He [God] said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”

Exodus 34:5-7    Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

Numbers 23:18-20    Then he took up his oracle and said:  “Rise up, Balak, and hear!  Listen to me, son of Zippor!

God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent.  Has He said, and will He not do?  Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?  Behold, I have received a command to bless;  He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it.

Deuteronomy 33:16    With the precious things of the earth and its fullness and the favor and goodwill of Him Who dwelt in the bush.  Let these blessings come upon the head of Joseph, upon the crown of the head of him who was separate and prince among his brothers.

1 Chronicles 16:23-24    Sing to the Lord, all the earth;  Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.  Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.

1 Chronicles 16:34  O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!

2 Chronicles 5:12-14    and the Levites who were the singers, all those of Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, stood at the east end of the altar, clothed in white linen, having cymbals, stringed instruments and harps, and with them one hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets— indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying:

“For He is good, For His mercy endures forever,” that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of  God.

2 Chronicles 6:40-42    “Now, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.  “Now arise, Lord God, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might.  May your priests, Lord God, be clothed with salvation, may your faithful people rejoice in your goodness.  Lord God, do not reject your anointed one.  Remember the great love promised to David your servant.”

2 Chronicles 7:2-3    And the priests could not enter the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house. When all the children of  Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the Lord, saying:

“For He is good, For His mercy endures forever.”

2 Chronicles 7:9-10    And on the eighth day they held a sacred assembly, for they observed the dedication of  the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.   On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their tents, joyful and glad of heart for the good that the Lord had done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel.

Ezra 3:10-11    When the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, the priests stood in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the Lord, according to the ordinance of David king of  Israel.   And they sang responsively, praising and giving thanks to the Lord:

“For He is good, For His mercy endures forever toward Israel.”  Then all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

Ezra 7:8-10    And Ezra came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.  On the first day of the first month he began his journey from Babylon, and on the first day of  the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.   For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel.

Ezra 8:21-23    Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions.   For I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of  soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him.” So we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He answered our prayer.

Nehemiah 9:25    And they captured fortified cities and a rich land and took possession of houses full of all good things, cisterns hewn out, vineyards, olive orchards, and fruit trees in abundance.   So they ate and were filled and became fat and delighted themselves in Your great goodness.

Psalm 25:6-8    Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.  Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways;  according to your love remember me, for you are good, O Lord.  Good and upright is the Lord;  therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.

Psalm 31:19    Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear, revere, and worship You, goodness which You have wrought for those who trust and take refuge in You before the sons of men!

Psalm 52:1    Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man?  The goodness of God endures continually.

Psalm 52:8-9    But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God;  I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.  I will praise You forever, Because You have done it;  And in the presence of Your saints  I will wait on Your name, for it is good.

Psalm 54:5-7    He will repay my enemies for their evil.  Cut them off in Your truth.  I will freely sacrifice to You;  I will praise Your name, O Lord, for it is good.  For He has delivered me out of all trouble;  And my eye has seen its desire upon my enemies.

Psalm 65

Praise is awaiting You, O God, in Zion;  And to You the vow shall be performed.  O You who hear prayer, To You all flesh will come.  Iniquities prevail against me; As for our transgressions, You will provide atonement for them.  Blessed is the man You choose, And cause to approach You, That he may dwell in Your courts.  We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Of Your holy temple.

By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us, O God of our salvation, You who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth, And of the far-off seas;  Who established the mountains by His strength, Being clothed with power;  You who still the noise of the seas, The noise of their waves, And the tumult of the peoples.

They also who dwell in the farthest parts are afraid of Your signs;  You make the outgoings of the morning and evening rejoice.  You visit the earth and water it, You greatly enrich it;  The river of God is full of water;  You provide their grain, For so You have prepared it.  You water its ridges abundantly, You settle its furrows;  You make it soft with showers, You bless its growth.

You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.

They drop on the pastures of the wilderness, And the little hills rejoice on every side.  The pastures are clothed with flocks; The valleys also are covered with grain; They shout for joy, they also sing.

Psalm 69:15-16  Let not the floodwater overflow me, Nor let the deep swallow me up;  And let not the pit shut its mouth on me.  Hear me, O Lord, for Your lovingkindness is good;  Turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.

Psalm 86:4-6    Rejoice the soul of Your servant, For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.  For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.  Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; And attend to the voice of my supplications.

Psalm 86:16-17    Turn to me and have mercy on me;  grant your strength to your servant and save the son of your  maidservant.  Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, O Lord, have helped me and comforted me.

Psalm 100:4-5    Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and a thank offering and into His courts with praise!  Be thankful and say so to Him, bless and affectionately praise His name!  For the Lord is good; His mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting, His faithfulness and truth endure to all generations.

Psalm 106:1-5    Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!) O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!

Who can put into words and tell the mighty deeds of the Lord?   Or who can show forth all the praise [that is due Him]?  Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are those who observe justice [treating others fairly] and who do right and are in right standing with God at all times.  [Earnestly] remember me, O Lord, when You favor  Your people! O visit me also when You deliver them, and grant me Your salvation!— That I may see and share the welfare of Your chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, that I may glory with Your heritage.

Psalm 107:1-3    Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!  For His mercy endures forever.  Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, And gathered out of the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south.

Psalm 107:8-9    Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!  For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.

Psalm 109:21    But You, O GOD the Lord, Deal with me for Your name’s sake;  Because Your mercy is good, deliver me.

Psalm 116:6-8    The Lord protects the simple-hearted;  when I was in great need, he saved me.  Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.  For you, O Lord, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling

Psalm 118

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!  For His mercy endures forever.
Let Israel now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
Let the house of Aaron now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
Let those who fear the Lord now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
I called on the Lord in distress;
The Lord answered me and set me in a broad place.

The Lord is on my side;  I will not fear.  What can man do to me?
The Lord is for me among those who help me;
Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.

It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in princes.

All nations surrounded me, But in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.
They surrounded me, Yes, they surrounded me; But in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.
They surrounded me like bees; They were quenched like a fire of thorns;
For in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

You pushed me violently, that I might fall, But the Lord helped me.
The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.
The voice of rejoicing and salvation Is in the tents of the righteous;
The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.  The right hand of the Lord is exalted;
The right hand of the Lord does valiantly.

I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the Lord.
The Lord has chastened me severely, But He has not given me over to death.
Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, And I will praise the Lord.
This is the gate of the Lord, Through which the righteous shall enter.
I will praise You, For You have answered me, And have become my salvation.

The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
This was the Lord’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Save now, I pray, O Lord;  O Lord, I pray, send now prosperity.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
We have blessed you from the house of the Lord.
God is the Lord, And He has given us light;

Bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.  You are my God, and I will praise You;  You are my God, I will exalt You.  Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!  For His mercy endures forever.

Psalm 119:68    You are good, and do good; Teach me Your statutes.

Psalm 135:3    Praise the Lord! For the Lord is good; sing praises to His name, for He is gracious and lovely!

Psalm 136:1    O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever.

Psalm 138  The Lord’s Goodness to the Faithful

I will praise You with my whole heart; Before the gods I will sing praises to You.  I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

In the day when I cried out, You answered me, And made me bold with strength in my soul.

All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O Lord, When they hear the words of Your mouth.  Yes, they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, For great is the glory of the Lord.

Though the Lord is on high, Yet He regards the lowly; But the proud He knows from afar.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me.

The Lord will perfect that which concerns me;  Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever;  Do not forsake the works of Your hands.

Psalm 143:9-11    Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies;  In You I take shelter.  Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good.  Lead me in the land of uprightness.  Revive me, O Lord, for Your name’s sake!  For Your righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.

Psalm 145:6-9    Men shall speak of the might of Your tremendous and terrible acts, and I will declare Your greatness.  They shall pour forth [like a fountain] the fame of Your great and abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of Your rightness and justice.  The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and abounding in mercy and loving-kindness. The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works [the entirety of things created].

Isaiah 63:7    I will recount the loving-kindnesses of the Lord and the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, according to all that the Lord has bestowed on us, and the great goodness to the house of Israel, which He has granted them according to His mercy and according to the multitude of His loving-kindnesses.

Jeremiah 31:11-14    For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, And ransomed him from the hand of one stronger than he.  Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, Streaming to the goodness of the Lord— For wheat and new wine and oil, For the young of the flock and the herd;  Their souls shall be like a well-watered garden, And they shall sorrow no more at all. “Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, And the young men and the old, together; For I will turn their mourning to joy, Will comfort them, And make them rejoice rather than sorrow.  I will satiate the soul of the priests with abundance, And My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, says the Lord.”

Jeremiah 32:39-41    then I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for the good of them and their children after them.   And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from doing them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts so that they will not depart from Me.   Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will assuredly plant them in this land, with all My heart and with all My soul.’

Jeremiah 33:8-16    I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they have transgressed against Me. Then it shall be to Me a name of joy, a praise, and an honor before all nations of the earth, who shall hear all the good that I do to them; they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and all the prosperity that I provide for it.’

“Thus says the Lord: ‘Again there shall be heard in this place—of which you say, “It is desolate, without man and without beast”—in the cities of Judah, in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast, the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who will say:

“Praise the Lord of hosts, For the Lord is good, For His mercy endures forever”—
and of those who will bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord. For I will cause the captives of the land to return as at the first,’ says the Lord.

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘In this place which is desolate, without man and without beast, and in all its cities, there shall again be a dwelling place of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down. In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the lowland, in the cities of the South, in the land of Benjamin, in the places around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the flocks shall again pass under the hands of him who counts them,’ says the Lord.

‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘that I will perform that good thing which I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah:

‘In those days and at that time I will cause to grow up to David A Branch of righteousness; He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.  In those days Judah will be saved, And Jerusalem will dwell safely.  And this is the name by which she will be called:  THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.’

Lamentations 3:24-26    The Lord is my portion or share, says my living being (my inner self); therefore will I hope in Him and wait expectantly for Him.  The Lord is good to those who wait hopefully and expectantly for Him, to those who seek Him [inquire of and for Him and require Him by right of necessity and on the authority of God’s word].  It is good that one should hope in and wait quietly for the salvation (the safety and ease) of the Lord.

Hosea 3:4-5     For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim.  Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They shall fear the Lord and His goodness in the latter days.

Micah 2:7    You who are named the house of Jacob:  “Is the Spirit of the Lord restricted?  Are these His doings?  Do not My words do good To him who walks uprightly?

Nahum 1:7    The Lord is good, a Strength and Stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows (recognizes, has knowledge of, and understands) those who take refuge and trust in Him.

Zechariah 9:16-17    And the Lord their God will save them on that day as the flock of His people, for they shall be as the [precious] jewels of a crown, lifted high over and shining glitteringly upon His land.  For how great is God’s goodness and how great is His beauty! And how great [He will make Israel’s] goodliness and [Israel’s] beauty!  Grain shall make the young men thrive and fresh wine the maidens.

Matthew 19:16-17    Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”  So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

John 10:11    I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd risks and lays down His [own] life for the sheep.

Romans 2:3-4    And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?  Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and long-suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

Romans 11:21-23    For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either.   Therefore consider the goodness and  severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness.   Otherwise you also will be cut off.   And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.

2 Corinthians 5:21    For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become [endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].

2 Corinthians 13:11    Finally, brethren, farewell (rejoice)! Be strengthened (perfected, completed, made what you ought to be); be encouraged and consoled and comforted; be of the same [agreeable] mind one with another; live in peace, and [then] the God of love [Who is the Source of affection, goodwill, love, and benevolence toward men] and the Author and Promoter of peace will be with you.

Ephesians 2:7    He did this that He might clearly demonstrate through the ages to come the immeasurable (limitless, surpassing) riches of His free grace (His unmerited favor) in [His] kindness and goodness of heart toward us in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 2:2-4    Like newborn babies you should crave (thirst for, earnestly desire) the pure (unadulterated) spiritual milk, that by it you may be nurtured and grow unto [completed] salvation, Since you have [already] tasted the goodness and kindness of the Lord.  Come to Him [then, to that] Living Stone which men tried and threw away, but which is chosen [and] precious in God’s sight.
