The Love of God

John 3:16

Deuteronomy 4:36-38     Out of heaven He let you hear His voice, that He might instruct you;   on earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words out of the midst of the fire.   And because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their descendants after them;   and He brought you out of Egypt with His Presence, with His mighty power, driving out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land as an inheritance, as it is this day.

Deuteronomy 7:6-8     “For you are a holy people to the Lord your God;   the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.   The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples;   but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Deuteronomy 7:12-14     “Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers.   And He will love you and bless you and multiply you;   He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He swore to your fathers to give you. You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock.

Deuteronomy 10:14-16     Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the Lord your God, also the earth with all that is in it.   The Lord delighted only in your fathers, to love them; and He chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as it is this day.   Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer.

Jeremiah 31:3

Deuteronomy 10:17-19     For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.   He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.   Therefore love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Deuteronomy 23:5-6     Nevertheless the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam, but the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the Lord your God loves you.   You shall not seek their peace nor their prosperity all your days forever.

1 Kings 10:9     Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on the throne of Israel!   Because the Lord has loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice and righteousness.”

2 Chronicles 2:11     Then Hiram king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon:  Because the Lord loves His people, He has made you king over them.

2 Chronicles 9:8     Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on His throne to be king for the Lord your God!  Because your God has loved Israel, to establish them forever, therefore He made you king over them, to do justice and righteousness.”

Psalm 11:7     For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.

Psalm 33:4-5     For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth.   He loves righteousness and justice;   The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

Psalm 37:28     For the Lord loves justice, And does not forsake His saints;   They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.

John 15:9

Psalm 47:4     He will choose our inheritance for us, The excellence of Jacob whom He loves.

Psalm 78:67-69     Moreover He rejected the tent of Joseph, And did not choose the tribe of Ephraim, But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which He loved.   And He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has established forever.

Psalm 87:1-3     His foundation is in the holy mountains.   The Lord loves the gates of Zion More than all the dwellings of Jacob.   Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God!

Psalm 146:8The Lord opens the eyes of the blind;   The Lord raises those who are bowed down; The Lord loves the righteous.

Proverbs 3:12     For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights.

Proverbs 15:9     The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, But He loves him who follows righteousness.

Isaiah 43

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.
For I am the Lord your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I gave Egypt for your ransom,
Ethiopia and Seba in your place.
Since you were precious in My sight,
You have been honored,
And I have loved you;
Therefore I will give men for you,
And people for your life.
Fear not, for I am with you;
I will bring your descendants from the east,
And gather you from the west;
I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’
And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’
Bring My sons from afar,
And My daughters from the ends of the earth—
Everyone who is called by My name,
Whom I have created for My glory;
I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”
Bring out the blind people who have eyes,
And the deaf who have ears.
Let all the nations be gathered together,
And let the people be assembled.
Who among them can declare this,
And show us former things?
Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified;
Or let them hear and say, “It is truth.”
“You are My witnesses,” says the Lord,
“And My servant whom I have chosen,
That you may know and believe Me,
And understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
Nor shall there be after Me.
I, even I, am the Lord,
And besides Me there is no savior.
I have declared and saved,
I have proclaimed,
And there was no foreign god among you;
Therefore you are My witnesses,”
Says the Lord, “that I am God.
Indeed before the day was, I am He;
And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand;
I work, and who will reverse it?”
Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
The Holy One of Israel:
“For your sake I will send to Babylon,
And bring them all down as fugitives—
The Chaldeans, who rejoice in their ships.
I am the Lord, your Holy One,
The Creator of Israel, your King.”
Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea
And a path through the mighty waters,
Who brings forth the chariot and horse,
The army and the power
(They shall lie down together, they shall not rise;
They are extinguished, they are quenched like a wick):
“Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.
The beast of the field will honor Me,
The jackals and the ostriches,
Because I give waters in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert,
To give drink to My people, My chosen.
This people I have formed for Myself;
They shall declare My praise.
Pleading with Unfaithful Israel
“But you have not called upon Me, O Jacob;
And you have been weary of Me, O Israel.
You have not brought Me the sheep for your burnt offerings,
Nor have you honored Me with your sacrifices.
I have not caused you to serve with grain offerings,
Nor wearied you with incense.
You have bought Me no sweet cane with money,
Nor have you satisfied Me with the fat of your sacrifices;
But you have burdened Me with your sins,
You have wearied Me with your iniquities.
“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake;
And I will not remember your sins.
Put Me in remembrance;
Let us contend together;
State your case, that you may be acquitted.
Your first father sinned,
And your mediators have transgressed against Me.
Therefore I will profane the princes of the sanctuary;
I will give Jacob to the curse,
And Israel to reproaches.

Isaiah 61:8     “For I, the Lord, love justice;  I hate robbery for burnt offering; I will direct their work in truth, And will make with them an everlasting covenant.

Isaiah 63:8-9     For He said, “Surely they are My people, Children who will not lie.”   So He became their Savior.   In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the Angel of His Presence saved them;  In His love and in His pity He redeemed them; And He bore them and carried them All the days of old.

Zephaniah 3:17

Jeremiah 31:3     The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:   “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”

Hosea 11:1-4

God’s Continuing Love for Israel

When Israel was a child, I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.  As they called them, So they went from them;  They sacrificed to the Baals, And burned incense to carved images.  “I taught Ephraim to walk, Taking them by their arms;  But they did not know that I healed them.  I drew them with gentle cords, With bands of love, And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck.  I stooped and fed them.

Hosea 14

O Israel, return to the Lord your God, For you have stumbled because of your iniquity;  Take words with you, And return to the Lord.  Say to Him,

 “Take away all iniquity; Receive us graciously, For we will offer the sacrifices of our lips.  Assyria shall not save us,  We will not ride on horses, Nor will we say anymore to the work of our hands, ‘You are our gods.’  For in You the fatherless finds mercy.”

I will heal their backsliding,  I will love them freely, For My anger has turned away from him.  I will be like the dew to Israel;  He shall grow like the lily,  And lengthen his roots like Lebanon.  His branches shall spread;  His beauty shall be like an olive tree, And his fragrance like Lebanon.  Those who dwell under his shadow shall return;  They shall be revived like grain, And grow like a vine.  Their scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon.

“Ephraim shall say, ‘What have I to do anymore with idols?’  I have heard and observed him.  I am like a green cypress tree; Your fruit is found in Me.”

Who is wise?  Let him understand these things.  Who is prudent?  Let him know them.  For the ways of the Lord are right;  The righteous walk in them, But transgressors stumble in them.

Zephaniah 3:17     The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save;  He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

John 3:16     For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 11:5     Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

John 13:1     [ Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet ] Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

John 15:12

John 13:23     Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.

John 13:34   A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

John 14:21     He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

John 14:23     Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

John 15:9     [ Love and Joy Perfected ] “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.

John 15:12     This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

John 16:27     for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.

John 17:23     I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

John 17:26     And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

John 19:26     When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”

Romans 5:5

John 20:2     Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.”

John 21:7     Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea.

John 21:20     [ The Beloved Disciple and His Book ] Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?”

Romans 5:5   Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Romans 5:8     But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 8:31     [ God’s Everlasting Love ] What then shall we say to these things?   If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:35     Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?   Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Romans 8:37     Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Romans 8:39     nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing  shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Corinthians 2:9     But as it is written:  “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

2 Corinthians 5:14     For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;

2 Corinthians 9:7     So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity;  for God loves a cheerful giver.

Galatians 2:20     I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Ephesians 3:19     to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 5:2     And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Ephesians 5:25     Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17     Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

2 Thessalonians 3:5     Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.

1 Timothy 1:14     And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

Titus 3:4-5     But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,  not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit

1 John 3:1     Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

1 John 4:7-20     Knowing God Through Love
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God;  and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.  He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.   In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.   Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Seeing God Through Love

No one has seen God at any time.   If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.   By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.   And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.   Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.   And we have known and believed the love that God has for us.   God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

The Consummation of Love

Love has been perfected among us in this:   that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment.   But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.  We love Him because He first loved us.

Obedience by Faith

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar;   for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

Revelation 1:5     and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.
