Grace, Favor, and Mercy of God Towards Men

Zechariah 7:9

Zechariah 7:9  Thus has the Lord of hosts spoken:  Execute true judgment and show mercy and kindness and tender compassion, every man to his brother;
KIND from the Old Testament Hebrew word checed meaning goodness, kindness, faithfulness; zeal towards any one, love, kindness, of men amongst themselves, benevolence, mercy, pity when referencing those in misfortune.
Translated as: mercy, kindness, loving-kindness, goodness, kindly, merciful, favor, good, goodliness, pity
“Hebrew Lexicon :: H2617 (KJV).” Blue Letter Bible. Accessed 30 Oct, 2013. http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=H2617&t=KJV
MERCY: compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one’s power; compassion, pity, or benevolence; the disposition to be compassionate or forbearing; the discretionary power of a judge to pardon someone or to mitigate punishment, especially to send to prison rather than invoke the death penalty; an act of kindness, compassion, or favor; something that gives evidence of divine favor; blessing. Forgiveness, indulgence, clemency, leniency, lenity, tenderness, mildness.
Word Origin & History mercy: late 12c., “God’s forgiveness of his creatures’ offenses,” from O.Fr. mercit, merci “reward, gift, kindness,” from L. mercedem (nom. merces) “reward, wages, hire” (in V.L. “favor, pity”), from merx (gen. mercis) “wares, merchandise.” In Church L. (6c.) applied to the heavenly reward of those who show kindness to the helpless. Meaning “disposition to forgive or show compassion” is attested from early 13c. As an interjection, attested from mid-13c. In French largely superseded by miséricorde except as a word of thanks.
“mercy.” Easton’s 1897 Bible Dictionary. 30 Oct. 2013. <Dictionary.com http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/mercy>.

Genesis 39:21 But the Lord was with Joseph, and showed him mercy and loving-kindness and gave him favor in the sight of the warden of the prison.

Daniel 1:9     Now God made Daniel to find favor, compassion, and loving-kindness with the chief of the eunuchs.

Ezra 7:27-28     Blessed be the Lord, the God of our fathers [said Ezra], Who put such a thing as this into the king’s heart, to beautify the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, and Who has extended His mercy and steadfast love to me before the king, his counselors, and all the king’s mighty officers. I was strengthened and encouraged, for the hand of the Lord my God was upon me, and I gathered together outstanding men of Israel to go with me to Jerusalem.

Psalm 5:7    But as for me, I will enter Your house through the abundance of Your steadfast love and mercy; I will worship toward and at Your holy temple in reverent fear and awe of You.

Psalm 36:5-10    Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, extend to the skies, and Your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God, Your judgments are like the great deep. O Lord, You preserve man and beast.  How precious is Your steadfast love, O God! The children of men take refuge and put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They relish and feast on the abundance of Your house; and You cause them to drink of the stream of Your pleasures.  For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light. O continue Your loving-kindness to those who know You, Your righteousness (salvation) to the upright in heart.

Psalm 48
Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised in the city of our God! His holy mountain, fair and beautiful in elevation, is the joy of all the earth—Mount Zion [the City of David], to the northern side [Mount Moriah and the temple], the [whole] city of the Great King!

God has made Himself known in her palaces as a Refuge (a High Tower and a Stronghold). For, behold, the kings assembled, they came onward and they passed away together. They looked, they were amazed; they were stricken with terror and took to flight [affrighted and dismayed]. Trembling took hold of them there, and pain as of a woman in childbirth. With the east wind You shattered the ships of Tarshish. As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it forever. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

We have thought of Your steadfast love, O God, in the midst of Your temple. As is Your name, O God, so is Your praise to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness (rightness and justice). Let Mount Zion be glad! Let the daughters of Judah rejoice because of Your [righteous] judgments!

Walk about Zion, and go round about her, number her towers (her lofty and noble deeds of past days), consider well her ramparts, go through her palaces and citadels, that you may tell the next generation [and cease recalling disappointments].
For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide [even] until death.
